<p>Some of the trains of the Prairie Line proceeded west from Lakeview to Nisqually on the American Lake Line going towards Grays Harbor destinations of the cities of Hoquiam and Moclips. The following trains were then serving these destinations for the Northern Pacific Railroad Company; The &#8220;Grays Harbor Limited&#8221;, trains # 421 and #422, the &#8220;Grays Harbor Express&#8221;, trains # 423 and # 424, and the &#8220;Puget Sound Express&#8221;, with trains # 465 and #466 running through these lines.</p>
<p>What remained in the town is the Train Depot, Built in 1914 this is where the great and powerful trains of the prairie line once got repaired and rested from their long, eventful trips from city to city, state to state. This station served as a terminus for three transcontinental railroads, the Puget Sound &amp; Pacific railroad, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, and of course the Northern Pacific Railway.</p>
<p>The Hoquiam train station and the train depot have seen better days, but it has given way to change and progress that it helped bring about without batting an eyelash. The train station and railroad served its last paying passenger in 1955.</p>
<p>1955 was the last year that a person bought a ticket and set foot on a train in Hoquiam station, but as progress and time would have it, the Prairie Line and the men of the railroad had to give way sooner or later and give way they did because it was the nature of the railroad, it was its purpose, to bring progress through wherever it went and ended, and it gave some of it to the town and the people did not forget.</p>
<p>The city and its residents have and will always be passionate lovers of history and heritage, this attitude has been proven worthwhile and honorable in many instances throughout its time as a community and the train depot is a testament to this attitude. Unfortunately for the rest of the Prairie Line with its old locomotives and disused railroads and dilapidated stations and depots, they will pass history and slowly fade away through rust and rot never to be seen or heard from again inevitably.</p>
<p>But fortunately, this is not true with the city of and its residents, who have always been proud and appreciative of what the trains made possible for their community before. A USD $1.2 million grant from the federal government, through the Federal Highways Department made it possible for city officials and residents to refurbish and keep alive the grandness of the old but beautiful train depot that was donated to the City and its people by the respectable Burlington Railroad Company who were the owners of the 96 year old depot before the donation.</p>
<p>The once celebrated &#8220;Prairie Line&#8221; of the North Pacific Railroad Company that was once the envy of the rail road men of history, once debated over and desired as the most crucial element for progress for the Northwest communities is now over and done with for the most part, but as fate would have it, not all of the history and heritage of the Prairie Line and the men whose lives were part of it will be lost to time. The city and its people have given the historic train depot a new lease in life as the site for the Washington State Driver Licensing Station for the next 10 years or so, with a part of the lease funds going to the continued upkeep and rehabilitation of the building, letting it serve people just like it was doing when it was and proudly still is part of the Prairie Line.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Declared as one of America&#8217;s most beautiful homes, Hoquiam&#8217;s Castle is a true heritage for the good people of the town in Washington State. The splendidly crafted 19th century Victorian period house is listed in both state and national historic registries. The castle pays tribute to the tenacity and elegance of those who established the town and its beauty and coziness can be experienced by weary travelers as guest as it is more popularly known today as Hoquiam&#8217;s Castle Bed and Breakfast!</p>
<p>The town was established as a logging town in the 1850&#8242;s and many of the residents made their fortunes through lumber. One of these men, Robert Lytle acquired his wealth by introducing the electric sawmill to the west coast, a first of its kind in the area. In 1897, Mr. Lytle began constructing his Victorian era home, which was all of 10,000 square feet that overlooked the &#8220;Hungry for wood&#8221; town, which is the rough translation of the term from the native language.</p>
<p>The castle was completed in the year 1900 and Robert Lytle and his family made it their home for the next 10 years, after which they moved to Portland, bequeathing it to their niece as a very generous wedding gift.</p>
<p>The niece, Theadosia Bale, lived in the Victorian mansion for the next 40 years or so, until her death. The Castle as it was already referred to back then, became abandoned and unkept for almost 18 years. During this time the castle became a sort of curiosity for the younger generations who eventually overcome their imaginings that the place was haunted and made it into their adventure zone. The old place got a break when in 1968 it was bought by the Watson&#8217;s who repaired the house and soon made it back into a home. It is the Watson&#8217;s who also familiarized the residents and visitors to the marvelous craftsmanship and historical value and possible benefit of the residence since they started touring people into their home as proud as they were, this also opened a lot of people&#8217;s eyes to the simple truth, that city had a treasure in its midst.</p>
<p>The castle became a mouthpiece for what was and still is good about the town and the people who call it their home. It is one of the witnesses to the towns colorful and eventful past of lumberjacks and railroads, of memories and relations that forever make the town what is it to its residents and visitors, the warm feeling of a fatherly embrace welcoming you back but reminding you at the same time what&#8217;s nice and good about being alive.</p>
<p>The bed and breakfast history of the castle was started by a business minded couple who bought the beautiful home and restored and rebuilt it to its old grandeur, reconstructing the five rooms that they offer their would be guests in as much as a supposed castle can in this part of the woods. Guests can both enjoy the many sights and sounds of the city and when they&#8217;re done for the night they can slip in and enjoy the old but still functional amenities of the Castle.</p>
<p>In 2004, The Castle Bed and Breakfast changed owners&#8217; again and this time it was purchased by Donna Grow who still operates it as a five room bed and breakfast that offers the same amenities that made it possible to be part of the list of National Geographic&#8217;s &#8220;America&#8217;s Most Beautiful Homes&#8221; and people should better believe it, yes, in the town, in Washington State. The five rooms are aptly named after the supposed residents of a castle; The king&#8217;s suite, the queen&#8217;s suite, the princess&#8217;s suite and the knight&#8217;s room. You can also avail of the maid&#8217;s room granting you make a one week reservation so that the occupants, actually the owner&#8217;s can move out so that the visitor can stay in as a guest in the maid&#8217;s room and as such is Hoquiam&#8217;s hospitality.</p>
<p>Houses that can really be called homes but are actually castles, that&#8217;s the magic of the town and its people for anyone who wishes to share its love and passion of everything old and worth living for like heritage and tradition. It is the citiy&#8217;s pride and joy to be home to a wonderful home in itself like the Castle.</p>
